My first attempt at baking ribs was amazing without a soul except my husband present. Unfortunately, I didn’t write down anything and my second attempt ended up being super bowl disaster in front of many. (Thankfully, my mexidip standby saved the day).
Being a little timid after such a humiliating experience, I decided to go to visit the almighty wizard, the Google. Once again with just the hubs, this turned out great!
So here’s what I did…
1 large rack of pork spare ribs
The Rub:
1 Tbsp Montreal Steak Seasoning
1 Tbsp Old Bay
1 tsp Thyme
1 tsp Onion Powder
1 tsp Garlic Powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp Pepper
1 tsp heat (could use jalapeno, cayenne, I used a mixed spice from Chili called: )
3-5 Tbsp. Brown Sugar
2 cups of beef broth
I left the ribs out for 30 minutes in package
During that time, I prepared a large cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil and a grill placed inside of the pan.
Next, I rinsed and dried the ribs, removed the back membrane and coated with the dry rub of spices. (Not the brown sugar yet).
I let the ribs sit for another 5 or so minutes in the rub and pre-heated the oven to 350 degrees.
I then coated the ribs in brown sugar and waited about 5 minutes for it to start to bubble.
I added 2 cups of beef broth to the bottom of the tray.
I tented the entire cookie sheet with aluminum foil and put in the oven for 1 hour.
I then pulled out the ribs and coated the top and bottom in my favorite bbq sauce and lowered the oven temp. to 250-275 degrees.
For the next 3 hours or so, I pulled them out every our for basting in bbq sauce.
Finally, the hubs put them on the grill for 8-10 minutes of browning on a hot grill.
The outcome…fall off the bone, amazing ribs that no one turned their noses up at!
